F 3 credits This course provides the student with the opportunity to develop the fundamental skills used in counseling. The focus will be on relationship building, interviewing techniques, listening skills, questioning, and assessment. Intervention strategies for supporting the normal grief process will be discussed. Problem identification, contracting, and goal setting with bereaved individuals will be addressed as well. The course relies heavily on in-class exercises in which students have the opportunity to develop and practice the techniques and concepts covered throughout the course. Prerequisite: Junior standing.
